Donald Trump, who announced last week that he is planning to shut the Elgas water treatment plant down, has threatened to shut it down entirely, citing environmental concerns.
Trump’s comments came after the EPA announced last Friday that the plant’s wastewater treatment systems had failed and that Elga would need to shut its main water treatment facility and shut down its sewage treatment plant.
The EPA said the wastewater treatment system failed due to high levels of arsenic and copper, which the plant used to produce water for its residents.
The Elgas plant produces about 3 million gallons of wastewater per day, which can be used to make drinking water.
The EPA estimates the plant produces 1.7 million gallons per day of water.
