Elga water supply damaged after leak

ELGA, Ga.

(AP) Elga County is investigating a leak of more than 3 million gallons of water from a wastewater treatment plant that has caused thousands of residents to boil their tap water and have the county shut down.

The Elga Times-Union reports that a leak occurred Sunday morning in the system’s storage tank.

The company said that a technician was checking a valve on Sunday morning, and the water pressure was not being maintained.

The system, located about 90 miles (145 kilometers) north of Atlanta, has more than 20,000 customers and serves about 600,000 people.
